The Dundas Arms

Beautifully located between the canal & the River Kennet, this local pub is a magnet in fine weather when crowds descend on the tables by the wonderful waterside terrace. But it’s a good place to eat at any time. Fresh ingredients are important & bar snacks substantial & well cooked (French onion soup, calf’s liver & bacon) while in the evening an adjacent dining room offers more elaborate cuisine (dressed crab, roast rack of lamb). A top choice for casual dining.

Before they were called gastropubs, there were pubs with great food. And that's what this has been for a generation. Eating's as often as not done in the bar rather than the dining room. The Kennet glides past on one side, the canal's on the other; cooking's not insular - it goes with the contemporary flow. Kintbury, Berkshire (01488 658263)
