The Dundas Arms in Kintbury has been voted West Berkshire’s Pub of the Year 2009.
The accolade was awarded by the West Berkshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
Veteran landlord David Dalzell-Piper, who has been at the pub since 1967, stocks real ale from breweries including Butts, West Berkshire Brewery and Ramsbury.
He bought the pub from Morland Brewery in 1969 and converted into a free house.
The chairman of West Berkshire CAMRA, Adrian Bean, said; “Within West Berkshire we have about 200 pubs and picking a pub of year is always tricky. We look at beer quality first, then look at the pub and how it is run. The Dundas Arms has been a regular in the Good Beer Guide, does really good ale and is an integral part of the Kintbury community”.
Mr Dalzell-Piper said; “We do great food but good beer has been the mainstay throughout good times and bad. It’s nice to gain some recognition”.
A presentation ceremony will take place at the pub in Station Road on Tuesday May 12, at 8pm.
